50 shades of sea on a grey day.

50 shades of sea.

Kambi. Zakynthos. Greece.

I can’t recall another winter that fuelled so many thoughts of summer.

It’s not that I usually enjoy winter, but I do respect its occupation. Winter is dignified. Elegant. Ergonomic. Metallic.

Winter loves its work.

Summer is indecent. Uncoordinated. Pyrotechnic. Fluorescent.

Summer loves itself.

I long for the vanity of summer.

7:58 am. rise but no shine.

7:58 am at the house of literature. rise and shine.

February is a month of wind, rain & fast-moving clouds on the island. Waking up early is compulsory. Getting out of bed is an epic undertaking. I choose to stay beneath my 7-hour body-warmed, goose-feather duvet. I reach for my book from under the bed covers: Celine’s Journey to the End of the Night. All is sullen, all is damp. Not the slightest sign of summer. Three months to go.
